Privacy policy

Who I am

This website is run by Kenley Bides, a freelance web designer. When this policy says “I”, “me” or “my”, that’s who it means. I handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What I collect

Stuff you give me

If you contact me by email, WhatsApp, Instagram or a form on this site, I’ll receive whatever you choose to share. Usually that’s your name, email address or phone number, and the details of your project.

Stuff collected automatically

• Analytics data, only if you accept cookies. Things like which pages you visited, roughly where in the world you are, what kind of device and browser you’re using and how you found the site.
• Basic server logs kept by my hosting provider for security, such as IP addresses and the time of a visit.

I don’t collect payment details, passwords or sensitive information through this website.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files saved in your browser. This site uses them sparingly.

• Analytics cookies (optional). I use Google Analytics to see how visitors use the site so I can improve it. These cookies start with _ga and are only set after you click “Sounds good” on the cookie banner. If you click “No thanks”, Google Analytics never loads.
• Your preferences (necessary). The site remembers your cookie choice and whether you picked light or dark mode. These are stored in your own browser using local storage and never sent to me.

You can change your choice any time using Cookie settings, also found in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

How I use it

• To reply to your messages and talk about your project
• To send quotes, invoices and project updates if we work together
• To understand what’s working on this site and make it better
• To keep the site secure and stop spam

I won’t add you to a mailing list or send you marketing emails unless you clearly ask for them.

Who else sees it

I never sell or rent your personal information. A few trusted services help run this site, and they may process some data on my behalf.

• Netlify hosts the website and handles form submissions.
• Google Analytics provides visitor statistics, only with your consent.
• Google Fonts delivers the fonts used on the site, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers.
• Gmail, WhatsApp and Instagram are used when you contact me through them, and their own privacy policies apply.

Some of these providers store data outside of Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws. I may also share information if I’m required to by law.

How long I keep it

Messages and project details are kept for as long as we’re chatting or working together, and then for up to two years in case you come back or I need them for tax records. Analytics data is kept for 14 months. After that, it’s deleted.

Keeping it safe

This site always loads over a secure, encrypted connection (HTTPS). I use reputable providers and keep access to your info limited to me. No system is perfect, but I take reasonable steps to protect what you share.

Your rights

You can ask me to

• Show you the personal information I have about you
• Fix anything that’s wrong or out of date
• Delete your information
• Withdraw your consent, including for analytics cookies

Just email me and I’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not happy with how I handled it, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Kids

This site isn’t made for children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent me their details, let me know and I’ll delete them.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top. If it’s a big change, like adding a new type of cookie, the cookie banner will pop up again so you can choose.
